ABOUT US

HEROIN IS NOT CHIC is an organization aimed to promote awareness of the growing heroin and opiate epidemic in the United States.

Drug overdose is the leading cause of accidental death in the U.S., with 47,055 lethal drug overdoses reported in 2014. Deaths resulting from opioid overdoses have more than quadrupled since 1999 (NIDA). In 2012, an estimated 467,000 people in the U.S. were addicted to heroin (ASAM).

Despite this opiate epidemic, the term 'Heroin Chic' in fashion circles glamorizes characteristics associated with addiction, including emaciated bodies and disheveled looks. Heroin Is Not Chic has been created to bring awareness to this growing epidemic. The term 'Heroin Chic' in fashion circles glamorizes characteristics associated with addiction, including emaciated bodies and disheveled looks.
